Artist's Statement

The world we presently live in is no longer black and white. Living in our modern society has given us ironic, convoluted situations that continually challenge our resolve day by day. We live in a gray world, where varying degrees of right and wrong co-exist. The simple life of a bygone era has long gone and we are now living in a more complex period in human history. The presence and reality of the problems and harsh realities we see around us cannot be ignored. The burden of living, if not surviving, affects us all. Amidst these circumstances, we are only left to ourselves to comprehend and determine our course of action. On a daily basis, we always encounter the dilemma of making choices, whether they’re personally significant or publicly noteworthy –or not. Inner conflict kicks in, and human duality eventually takes over to determine the final outcome.

This continuous balancing act is the basis for my works. Are we able to withstand all the challenges that we encounter and make considerable progress? Or are we already contented in where we are currently situated in right now? Do we need to change to make a difference in our lives and the world we live in? I am particularly awed about our ability to weigh our decisions and make the right choices, but also baffled about human faults and weaknesses perennially committed that affects us and the people around us. The human mind is so complicated that we either succeed or fail, or live without trying. I would like to show these varying states of confusion and bewilderment that we encounter in our lives today. Despite the promise of material progress and development, we are still, as humans, left to our own inner strength and discernment to make concrete sense of all the clutter that surround us.
